Chhattisgarh’s Energy Revolution: ₹3 Lakh Crore Investment in 4 Power Plants

Raipur: Chhattisgarh is rapidly moving towards an energy revolution. At the ‘Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit’ held in Raipur today, several major companies announced investments exceeding ₹3 lakh crore. This investment will lead to the development of new power projects in nuclear, thermal, solar, and pumped storage sectors. Not only will industries benefit from this initiative, but the general public will also receive affordable and uninterrupted electricity.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that this investment in the energy sector will elevate Chhattisgarh’s power generation capacity to new heights while promoting renewable energy for a greener future. The state aims to become self-reliant in energy and establish itself as a major energy hub for the country. Chhattisgarh already generates 30,000 MW of electricity, surpassing the national average, and each individual in the state now has access to 2,048 kWh of electricity, fulfilling the state’s energy needs.

Major Investments in the Energy Sector

1. Nuclear Power: A Historic Beginning

NTPC has planned a ₹80,000 crore investment for a 4,200 MW nuclear power project, marking the beginning of nuclear energy production in Chhattisgarh.

2. Thermal Power: Strengthening Capacity

Significant investments have been made in the thermal power sector:

  • Adani Power will invest ₹66,720 crore to set up three 1,600 MW thermal power plants in Korba, Raigarh, and Raipur.
  • Jindal Power will invest ₹12,800 crore in Raigarh for a 1,600 MW power plant.
  • Sarda Energy will establish a 660 MW plant in Raigarh with an investment of ₹5,300 crore.
  • NTPC and CSPGCL will jointly generate 4,500 MW of power with an investment of ₹41,120 crore.

3. Solar Power: Advancing Green Energy

Chhattisgarh has made significant progress in solar energy:

  • Jindal Power and NTPC Green will invest ₹10,000 crore to generate 2,500 MW of solar power, including 500 MW in Dolesara and 2,000 MW in Raigarh.
  • Under the PM Kusum Scheme, ₹4,100 crore will be invested to generate 675 MW of solar power and install 20,000 solar pumps, benefiting farmers with cheaper electricity and reducing dependency on diesel pumps.

4. Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) for Energy Stability

A total investment of ₹57,046 crore will be made in 8,700 MW pumped storage projects, including:

  • 1,800 MW at SJVN Kotpali
  • 3,000 MW by Jindal Renewable

Additional Key Investments & Initiatives

  1. Renewable Energy Expansion: ₹3,200 crore for CREDA’s solar initiatives.
  2. PM Surya Scheme: ₹6,000 crore for the National Solar Rooftop Project.
  3. Solar Energy for Government Buildings: ₹2,500 crore investment to install solar power in government structures.
  4. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): ₹2,600 crore investment to enhance energy storage capacity.
  5. Power Transmission Network Upgrade: ₹17,000 crore to modernize electricity transmission infrastructure.
  6. RDSS (Distribution Sector Scheme): ₹10,800 crore to improve power distribution infrastructure.

Chhattisgarh: On Track to Becoming an Energy Leader

With these massive investments, Chhattisgarh is set to become one of India’s top energy-producing states. This transformation will benefit industries, farmers, and residents, ensuring sustainable economic growth. The government’s vision for a self-reliant and green energy future is now becoming a reality, positioning Chhattisgarh as a key power hub for the nation.
