Virtual spiritual app Vama has demonstrated a two-fold scale during the fiscal year ended March 2025. However, in pursuit of growth, the firm’s losses increased by 33% during the same period.

Vama’s operating revenue rose to Rs 19.5 crore in FY25, up from 9.4 crore in FY24.

Founded in late 2020 by Manu Jain and Acharya Dev, Delhi-based Vama offers virtual access to religious and spiritual services, including online pujas, e-darshans, and astrology consultations. Since launch, the startup claims to have delivered over 1.5 lakh astrology and puja sessions globally through its Android and iOS apps.

In FY25, Vama reported total revenue of ₹19.66 crore, driven primarily by recharges and pooja bookings on its platform. A small portion of revenue also came from interest income and income tax refunds.

Marketing Leads Expenditure, But Growth Balances Losses

Vama’s expenses saw a sharp rise in FY25, reaching ₹31.8 crore, up from ₹18.5 crore in FY24. The biggest cost center was marketing, which made up 40% of total spending at ₹13.93 crore — reflecting Vama’s aggressive push for user growth.

Employee benefit expenses were the second-largest, totaling ₹6.58 crore, followed by direct service costs (astrology, VIP astrologers, puja offerings) at ₹5.44 crore. Other operational overheads including legal, payment gateway fees, tech, and video production contributed to the remaining spend.

Despite the 2X revenue growth, losses rose only 33.3% to ₹12 crore in FY25, compared to ₹9 crore the previous fiscal year — indicating improved cost-efficiency and scale.

As of March 2025, Vama’s total current assets stood at ₹7.52 crore.

To date, Vama has raised $2.9 million, including a $1.5 million seed round led by Wavemaker Partners in 2023.

In India’s rapidly evolving virtual spirituality space, Vama faces strong competition. Its rival, AppsForBharat (led by Prashant Sachan), recently made headlines after raising $20 million in a Series C round. The company posted ₹18.53 crore in operating revenue in FY24 but also incurred ₹39 crore in losses. FY25 results for AppsForBharat are yet to be disclosed.

Other key players in the segment include DevDham, Utsav App, Sutradhar, Ghar Mandir, Tirth.com and 27 Mantra, all of which are competing for dominance in India’s booming spiritual-tech ecosystem.
