Siddharth Kothari: a Next-gen Entrepreneur, Investor and an advocate of Veganism
Siddharth Kothari, 29, is an early-age Investor who has a long-standing interest in equities. He is the third-generation at Om Kothari Group (founded in 1971 by his grandfather) where he holds the position of a Chief Investment Strategist. Siddharth invests in socially conscious brands and ideas which have a net positive impact on society.
His startup portfolio has over 12 companies with highly diverse interest areas such as men’s grooming, plant-based products, co-working spaces, home automation, and cruelty-free cosmetics, amongst others. These include GoodMylk, Grexter, ClearDekho, ApnaComplex, Innov8, Beardo, Wishberry, Sirona PeeBuddy, Shaadi Saga, and Spoofin. Siddharth is also an early investor and partner at Venture Catalysts and 2Point2 Capital and a limited partner at Carpe Diem.
Siddharth did his schooling at The British School in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi and graduated in Business Management (Finance) from Questrom School of Business, Boston University. He then went on to intern and learn the ways of his family business. Siddharth handles an equity portfolio, family office investments in various asset classes, and even some passion investments in his kitty like film financing.
Being a movie and documentary buff, he appreciates good cinema and has invested in production companies like Wishberry Films. He enjoys playing poker and plans on buying a poker team at Poker Sports League which is promoted by Dabur.
He found early success and high returns when he started investing in 2014 in listed equities. From there on he has added start-ups and occasionally commodities like gold to his portfolio along with opportunistic investments in several alternative asset classes.
Siddharth has been vegan since 2010 for the animals, his health and the environment. He is a proud advocate of veganism with love for avocado, hummus, falafel, thai curry, rajma and vegan cakes for dessert.
He has also taken a keen interest in investing where his heart lies, he has invested in a cruelty-free cosmetics brand, Arata and GoodMylk – a start-up producing plant-based foods and beverages. Some of the vegan and vegan-friendly brands he has an affinity for are Stella McCartney, The Body Shop, Tesla, Nike (Air Jordan), and Pangaia. Some of his go to Indian vegan-friendly eateries are Greenr Cafe, Burma Burma, Indian Accent, and Sequel.
Siddharth is also an INK Talks Future Maker. He almost only reads non-fiction with interests in psychology, philosophy, behavioral finance and biographies. He draws his professional inspiration from Warren Buffet and Radhakishan Damani. He is also inspired by the life of Mahatma Gandhi. If asked for book recommendations, he suggests Poor Charlie’s Almanack by Charlie Munger, Fooled by Randomness by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, The Dhandho Investor by Mohnish Pabrai, Zero to One by Peter Thiel, and How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
When it comes to travel, he likes to splurge on premium airlines, exotic hotels and global cities. He is well travelled through the US, Europe, Africa, and most Asian countries too.
He believes there is wisdom in traveling and enjoys city life more than the countryside. When abroad, some of his ideal vegan dining spots are By Chloe (US and UK), Broccoli Revolution (Bangkok), Blossom (NYC), Mildreds (London), and Indochine (San Francisco).
His day starts by reading up on markets and research, reads at least three to five hours a day and unwinds with meditation and mindful walking accompanied with some soothing music. During the lockdown, he formed a quarantine group where he plays table tennis and cricket along with workout every alternate day.
