SpeakX (formerly Yellow Class) has raised $16 million in a new funding round led by WestBridge Capital, with participation from Elevation Capital, Goodwater Capital, and angel investors Ronnie Screwvala and Shyamal Anadkat.
The new capital will be used for product development, scaling user growth, and expanding the app’s reach to new geographies.
The company has pivoted its focus to build an English learning app that uses voice and AI to help users improve conversational English.
Prior to this round, SpeakX had raised a total of $7.3 million which includes $1.3 million in seed funding led by India Quotient and then a $6 million Series A round led by Elevation Capital in 2021.
Led by Arpit Mittal, SpeakX operates on a subscription-based model that allows users to access interactive English-speaking lessons designed for children and young learners. The app combines speech recognition and personalized learning modules to evaluate pronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency.
The company initially began as a live learning platform but later pivoted in 2023 to an AI-powered learning app to make English learning more accessible and scalable. SpeakX’s app is currently available in India and select international markets, with plans to expand further across Asia and the Middle East.
The new funding comes amid a significant slowdown in edtech investments. So far in 2025, startups in the sector have raised just $140 million across 24 deals. Recently, Vedantu secured $11 million as part of a larger funding round, while Eruditus raised $150 million through a refinancing round led by Mars Growth Capital.
