Bengaluru-based space-tech startup Pixxel has raised $100 million in its Series C funding round, marking one of the biggest private funding rounds in India’s rapidly expanding space sector and taking the company’s total capital raised to $195 million.

The round was co-led by Singapore-based investment firm Temasek and space-focused venture capital firm Seraphim Space. New investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment also joined the round, while existing backers including Radical Ventures and growX Ventures continued to support the company.

The latest fundraise is reportedly valuing Pixxel at around $450 million to $500 million, according to media reports.

More importantly, the funding signals a bigger ambition for Pixxel. What began as a startup focused primarily on hyperspectral satellite imaging is now positioning itself as a broader Earth intelligence and space systems company, spanning satellites, software, advanced sensors and sovereign space infrastructure.

Pixxel’s $100 Million Funding: Where Will the Money Go?

Pixxel plans to deploy the fresh capital across several areas of its business as it looks to scale from a satellite imaging company into a full-stack space technology platform.

The company plans to expand its Honeybee satellite constellation, develop high-resolution optical imaging satellites, scale its Aurora Earth intelligence platform and increase satellite manufacturing capacity through Gigapixxel.

Its expansion will also move beyond hyperspectral imaging into advanced sensing satellites, Earth intelligence software and sovereign space systems.

This strategy could put Pixxel in a stronger position as demand grows for high-quality Earth observation data across defence, agriculture, climate monitoring, infrastructure, disaster management and other commercial applications.

From Hyperspectral Imaging to Earth Intelligence

Founded by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, Pixxel started with a relatively focused proposition: use hyperspectral imaging from space to capture significantly more information about the Earth than conventional satellite imagery.

Hyperspectral satellites can collect data across hundreds of spectral bands, allowing users to identify and analyse materials and changes that may not be visible in ordinary images.

Over time, Pixxel has expanded that proposition.

The company is now building an ecosystem that combines satellites, sensors, manufacturing capabilities and software. Its Aurora platform is designed to turn satellite data into actionable Earth intelligence, while its satellite manufacturing ambitions could give the company greater control over the deployment of its growing constellation.

Six Firefly Satellites Already Deployed

The company has deployed six Firefly satellites, launched its Aurora Earth intelligence platform and secured contracts with major US government agencies including NASA and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).

It has also participated in India’s defence innovation ecosystem, winning multiple iDEX challenges from the Ministry of Defence.

Another major milestone came when Pixxel was selected to lead the development of India’s first public-private Earth observation constellation, comprising 12 satellites, under IN-SPACe.

These developments have helped Pixxel move beyond the early-stage space-tech narrative and establish itself as one of India’s more prominent private players in Earth observation.

Pixxel’s Total Funding Reaches $195 Million

Before the Series C round, Pixxel had raised approximately $95 million from a group of prominent investors.

Its backers include Google, Lightspeed, Radical Ventures, Blume Ventures, growX Ventures, Glade Brook Partners and Seraphim Space, among others.

The company closed its $60 million Series B round in December 2024, giving it significant capital to accelerate satellite deployment and build out its Earth intelligence capabilities.

The new $100 million round now takes Pixxel’s cumulative funding to $195 million.

For a relatively young space-tech company, that puts Pixxel among the most heavily funded startups emerging from India’s private space ecosystem.

The contrasting trajectories of Skyroot and Pixxel highlight the breadth of India’s emerging private space ecosystem.

While Skyroot is focused on launch vehicles and access to space, Pixxel is building technology around what happens after satellites reach orbit — collecting, processing and commercialising information from space.

Together, they illustrate how India’s space startup landscape is evolving beyond traditional aerospace and satellite services.

Pixxel Wants to Build More Than Satellites

The biggest takeaway from Pixxel’s Series C is arguably not the $100 million headline.

It is the company’s attempt to build a much larger space technology business.

By combining satellite manufacturing, advanced sensing, Earth observation, software and sovereign space systems, Pixxel is targeting multiple layers of the space economy rather than relying on a single product.

The expansion of Honeybee, investment in high-resolution optical satellites and the scaling of Aurora could give the company a significantly larger data footprint.
