Raincheck Earth Co., the maker of alcoholic beverage startup Cherrapunji Craft Gin, has raised $1.2 Mn in pre-Series A round from Japanese investors.
The round also saw participation from AngelList India Syndicate, who doubled down on their previous investments. The startup raised its seed round in May 2023.
The proceeds will be used to ramp up its domestic and global expansion, increasing distribution and visibility for Cherrapunji Craft Gin in key markets.
Founded by Mayukh Hazarika, Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin was launched in 2023 from Cherrapunji in Meghalaya. The North East Indian town is known as the rainiest place on earth and has the world record for the highest amount of rainfall in a year, and it is this rainwater that is purified and used alongside North East Indian botanicals to make Cherrapunji Gin.
According to the company, its bottles are made of military-grade stainless steel with the aim of minimising the gin’s carbon footprint and providing a reusable container, and in 2024 Cherrapunji Gin was voted as ‘Gin Bottle of the Year 2024’ by The Gin Guide readers and followers.
The firm claims to have gained significant global recognition for its flagship product, which has already won 13 global awards since launch.
