Pocket Entertainment, the parent company of audio drama platform Pocket FM and AI microdrama platform Pocket Saga, announced on September 10 that it had surpassed a $500 million annual revenue run rate (ARR) as of August 2026, as the Bengaluru-based startup doubles down on AI-driven content creation.
Half of that, or $250 million, came in the last year alone, CEO Rohan Nayak said. In April, Nayak announced that the company had crossed $400 million ARR. The figure is calculated by multiplying its monthly revenue by 12. What’s driving Pocket FM’s growth? Pocket FM, the company’s flagship product, has expanded into the UK, Germany and France over the past year, broadened its catalog across genres including Thriller and Fantasy, and launched user-generated content in the United States, significantly increasing the volume and diversity of stories available to listeners.
The company said that 96 titles have each generated more than $1 million in revenue, including 13 that have surpassed $10 million.
Overall, Pocket Entertainment has more than 550,000 creators producing over 2.6 million hours of content. The platform library has also grown to more than 770,000 titles across eight categories, it said. This has helped the annual revenue retention rate on the platform increase to 76 percent from 44 percent two years ago, the company said.
Last week, Moneycontrol was the first to report that Pocket Entertainment is re-entering the microdrama space with Pocket Saga, offering animated series and AI-generated video adaptations of existing Pocket FM series. “AI is creating an entirely new era of entertainment, one defined by an abundance of high-quality content, the rise of single-person studios capable of creating blockbusters, and experiences hyper-personalized for every individual,” said Nayak.
“We are already seeing creators build stories that generate millions of dollars, something that historically required large studios, big teams, significant budgets and years of production,” he added. Leveraging AI across the entire process Started by Nayak, Prateek Dixit, and Nishanth KS, Pocket Entertainment is currently leveraging AI across creation, production, localisation and distribution.
While real-time audience insights help identify stories that resonate, enabling promising IP to scale faster across audiences and markets, AI cuts the time required to launch in new markets from about 12 months to two, allowing successful stories and IP to expand across languages and geographies much faster, the company said. “AI fundamentally changes the economics of entertainment businesses. Crossing $500 million in ARR, with a healthy bottom line, is a testament to that. Interestingly, Pocket FM has scaled while improving retention alongside it.
That doesn’t happen without having good taste,” said Harsha Kumar, Partner at Lightspeed. In January, Pocket Entertainment hired former Meta AI scientist Vasu Sharma as Head of AI to accelerate its goal of becoming an AI-led entertainment studio. Sharma is expected to play a crucial role in developing the company’s fiction-writing models, building creator-first AI tools, and scaling high-quality AI-assisted production workflows while maintaining a human-first ethos, Dixit told Moneycontrol in an interview in January 2026. Pocket FM claims to have over 250 million listeners who on average spend more than 155 minutes a day, with 51 percent of weekly active users engaging with the platform on a daily basis.
Pocket Entertainment counts The StepStone Group, Lightspeed, Tanglin Venture Partners, and South Korea’s Naver among its investors and it has raised around $196.5 million in funding so far. The startup was last valued at $750 million when it raised $103 million in March 2024. It is headquartered in Bengaluru and California’s Culver City, with offices in San Francisco, Berlin and Mumbai. For FY25, Pocket Entertainment recorded a 68 percent increase in revenue at Rs 1,768 crore.
The growth was driven by strong momentum across India, the US and Europe markets, along with an expanded content catalogue and improved monetisation. Rival Kuku has filed confidentially for an IPO with plans to raise Rs 2,500 crore – Rs 3,500 crore ($260-$360 million) targeting a valuation of Rs 15,000 crore ($1.8 billion), Moneycontrol reported in June 2026. Pocket Entertainment also competes with startups such as Eloelo’s Story TV, Dashverse and ShareChat’s Quick TV.
